There are two tools you don't need as an Virtual Infrastructure administrator anymore. One of them is winscp and the other fastscp. These tools (for uploading files like iso's to your VMFS) are completely obsolete since VMware has done a great job in completing the "Browse Datastore" option in the vCenter Client.
Browse Datastore from VI-Client
The options from left to right:
Register VM / Template (only available when selecting a .vmx or .vmtx file)
Go to folder (only usable in from the search option)
Create a new folder
Upload files or folder (and it is secure and fast)
Download files or folders
Move files or folders
Delete files or folders
Refresh
Now in the beginning a lot of icons appear to be greyed out. But you need to click something on the RIGHT side. Then they will be active. So deleting a folder is easy: on the left pane, click the root (/) and on the right pane click the folder you want to delete. And most of all, make sure you check out the search feature. You can search on:
Files and folders
Virtual Machines
Templates
Virtual Hard Disks
Floppy Images (*.flp)
ISO Images (*.iso)
Log Files
RAM Images
Virtual Machine Snapshots
Pretty cool right? If you're having problems using this browse datastore feature and you have sudden drops like I had, and you're using Vista 64bit like I do, try to start the Virtual Infrastructure client in Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode (see screenshot). That resolved my issues... Have fun!
Did you know: the maximum amount of memory in an ESX server is 256GB. And the Service Console max is 800MB. By default 6% of the total memory cannot be used (look at Mem.MinFreePct)
